After working with my family’s catering business for years, I ended up starting my own catering business called “All Seasons All Reasons Fine Catering”. My company did very well, but the long hours took a toll on my family life. After 18 years of running a successful business, I realized my children were paying the price. I knew I would have to make a change at some point. I was involved in a real estate deal with a wonderful agent, but the agent on the other side of the deal was very disorganized and it made the process very frustrating. It was then that I realized that this may be a great career move for me. Through my catering experience, I had become very familiar with house layouts, and started to notice how some houses flowed well when it came to entertaining guests. That, coupled with the fact that I saw first-hand how important it is to deliver excellent customer service in real estate transactions, made me realize I would be perfect for the job.
I talked with my agent about the process of entering the real estate world. Soon after, I got my license and started my new career. I was very happy with the path I chose. Best of all, I was able to spend the quality time with my family that I had been missing. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing; like many others, the turn in the economy affected me profoundly. I lost three houses. On top of many other hardships in my family life, I also lost both my parents. It was an extremely difficult time for me, and there was a point that my faith began to waiver. I was able to work through trust issues and realized it is in hard times that I must not pull away from my faith, but immerse myself in it all the more. My greatest strengths in real estate are my ability to negotiate, and to be able to draw from my own experiences when dealing with clients. I understand that the process can be stressful, and it is my job to guide my clients in the right direction while also easing their stress.
